Is it possible to add a payment plan during the checkout stage of the process?

Yes, it is possible to add a payment plan to items at checkout. To do this, click Pay Deposit underneath the item on the Cart page: 

Note: In the above example, there are two items with payment plans and an item without one. All three items, though, will be contained within one order.
